About Baby Kim® Lilac

Baby Kim® Lilac (Syringa ‘SMNSDTP’) is an improved version of the classic ‘Miss Kim’ lilac, featuring a more compact habit, darker purple blooms, and flowers that do not fade to white. This dwarf variety naturally grows as a tidy, appealing mound, making it perfect for smaller landscapes and container gardens. Enjoy its great fragrance, good disease resistance on foliage and roots, and outstanding landscape performance.

Ideal for borders, containers, cut flowers, and mass plantings, Baby Kim® Lilac offers versatility in the landscape. Its dwarf habit makes it perfect for lining walkways, planting under windows, or creating a low hedge. With its rich fragrance, vibrant blooms, and light rebloom potential, Baby Kim® brings classic lilac beauty to even the smallest garden spaces.

How to Grow Baby Kim® Lilac

Baby Kim® Lilac thrives in full sun and is hardy in USDA Zones 3-8, tolerating temperatures as low as -40°F. This deciduous shrub reaches 2-3 feet in height and width, fitting well into tight spaces. It blooms on old wood, producing an abundance of fragrant purple flowers in spring.

For best results, plant Baby Kim® Lilac in well-drained soil with a pH level of 5.6 – 6.2. It requires moderate watering and minimal pruning—trim within 2 weeks after blooms are spent to avoid removing next year’s flower buds. Light rebloom can occur if spent flowers are trimmed off in late spring. This variety is deer-resistant, attracts pollinators, and is suitable for alkaline and clay soils.
