About the Choquette Avocado Tree

The perfect blend of quality and quantity! The Choquette Avocado Tree is a late-season variety cherished by both commercial growers and homeowners. Also called the Florida avocado, the Choquette avocado is a cross between Guatemalan and West Indian varieties. It was first developed in Miam in the 1930s by Remi D. Choquette Sr., for whom the variety is named.

They produce large quantities of exceptionally large fruits with silky flesh, perfect for slicing! Choquette avocados ripen from October to December and can measure up to six inches long and weigh up to three pounds. Choquette avocadoa have a mild, rich, creamy, nutty flavor. These delicious avocados are wonderful in many dishes, including smoothies, salads, and toppings for a wide variety of cooked dishes such as tacos and burritos.

With glossy green leaves and lovely, fragrant blossoms, Choquette makes for a lovely landscape specimen and medium-sized shade tree. The yellow-green flowers measure 1/2 inch in diameter with a slight pineapple fragrance.

How to grow the Choquette Avocado Tree

Easy to grow and maintain in the proper conditions, the Choquette Avocado Tree is quickly becoming popular with gardeners in Florida. With resilience against temperatures as low as 25 degrees Fahrenheit, this tropical/subtropical tree flourishes. The Choquette Avocado tree thrives in limited spaces, reaching a modest height of up to 30 feet.

This evergreen fruit tree is sure to be a valued, consistent producer with the right care. Select a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil and provide ample sunlight for optimal growth. Regular watering, especially during the establishment phase, is essential, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Pruning to maintain a manageable size, occasional fertilization, and protection from frost in colder climates are vital components of nurturing a flourishing avocado tree.

Avocado trees are self-pollinating and you’ll get a nice harvest with just one tree. They don’t require another variety in order to produce fruit. However, having a Type A and Type B avocado tree increases the chance of successful pollination and fruit set. Choquette is a type A.
