Description

Grow your own avocados!

The Lila Avocado Tree is a Mexican variety with green-skinned fruit that has a rich, nutty flavor. The medium-sized, pear-shaped fruit has many uses. Add avocados to salads, smoothies, and other dishes for a boost in vitamins and protein.

Avocado trees are dense, evergreen trees that grow fast in tropical climates. These trees are remarkable in their ability to thrive under a broad range of environmental conditions. Avocado trees prefer mild temperatures, good draining soil, humidity, and 6 hours of sun.

Mature Lila Avocado Trees can be cold hardy down to 30 degrees F – tolerating even colder temperatures in short periods of time. Lila is becoming more popular for being more cold-tolerant than other varieties of avocado. Fruit holds well on the tree.

When planted in the ground, the Lila Avocado Tree can reach a mature size of about 25 feet tall and can be kept even smaller by pruning. When growing in a container, make sure the soil completely dries out before watering again deeply. These trees have shallow roots, so be sure to choose a container that is just as wide as it is tall. Good drainage is key.

Avocado trees are self-pollinating and you’ll get a nice harvest with just one tree. They don’t require another variety in order to produce fruit. However, having a Type A and Type B avocado tree increases the chance of successful pollination and fruit set. Lila is a type A, with avocados ripening from September to October.
