Stark Bro's Legacy, Since 1816
Stark Bro's Nurseries & Orchards Co. is one of the oldest businesses in the United States (founded in 1816).
Well before the westward expansion, in a time when agriculture was the foundation of prosperity in this country, James Stark moved from Kentucky to a plot of land in the Louisiana Purchase. 5 years later, that plot of land became a part of the new state of Missouri.
Here, Stark began a superior apple orchard that became his family's livelihood and eventually Stark Bro's Nurseries & Orchards Co.
From the Civil War to the invention of the automobile, both World Wars, a Great Depression, landing on the moon, and the technological explosion of the 20th century... Stark Bro's has thrived for almost 200 years.
