Pruning your tree is an important part of proper edible tree care. For avocados, it’s relatively simple.

Pruning Tips

  • Remove dead wood, as much as possible
  • Eliminate ‘v-type’ crotches, as these are mechanically weak and prone to developing rots
  • If planted outside, don’t remove lower limbs, as the exposure can make remaining limbs vulnerable to sun burn.
