Description
A Barnes heirloom from Civil War times. Originally grown only as an ornamental because people used to believe that tomatoes (aka “love apples”) were poisonous. Happily, they figured out that wasn’t the case. These big, pink-red beefsteak-type fruits are very deeply flavored, a natural for tomato sandwiches and fresh tomato sauce. A heavy bearer. If you’re only going to grow one potato-leaf variety, this is it. Deer-resistant. Indeterminate. Photo courtesy of Baker Creek Heirloom Seed.
